About Nuclear Engineering - Politecnico di Milano
The Master of Science (MSc) in Nuclear Engineering aims to train engineers capable of addressing the complex aspects of nuclear-related topics. The program focuses on both energy-related applications (e.g., fission and fusion plants, nuclear fuel, nuclear materials, and safety) and non-energy applications (e.g., medical and industrial uses of nuclear radiation, radiation detection and measurement, nuclear electronics, radiochemistry, radiation protection, physics of matter, plasma physics, and nanotechnologies). Nuclear Engineering was introduced in Italy’s engineering education regulations in 1955-56. In 1957, the Politecnico di Milano became the first university in Italy to offer courses in this field and to build and operate the country’s first nuclear research reactor within a university setting. Over the years, the university developed a strong capability to deliver comprehensive education in the nuclear domain, closely linked to related research activities. Today, the MSc in Nuclear Engineering attracts students from across Italy, Europe, and the world.
