Target Sector Our focus is UK and European Lifescience businesses. In a sector where a great deal of attention is on a small number of huge international players it is easy to lose sight of the fact that around 95% of UK Lifescience businesses are SMEs with turnover of less than £50m. Many are significantly below that. Nucleus Underwriting provides a solution for such businesses in an insurance market which is low on capacity and specialist knowledge. Why a Managing General Agent? Aside from a few well-known carriers, many insurers shy away from the commitments required to successfully underwrite Lifescience SME business. As such, many insurers have typically simply sought to take small lines on large programmes where the rewards can be great for those that do it well but the downside is potentially equally significant.
