NumPEx is a priority research program aimed at creating the software stacks and tools that will equip the next generation of supercomputers: Exascale machines, capable of performing a billion billion operations per second.
NumPEx also prepares user sectors to harness the full capabilities of these machines, in domains such as climate, energy, astrophysics, life science, industry, or health. It includes a major training part too, so as to disseminate state-of-the-art knowledge in high performance computing.
Funded by the French governement for € 40.8 M over 6 years as part of France 2030, NumPEx is run by CEA, CNRS, and Inria.
Coordinated with the European strategy, NumPEx brings together the whole national Exascale ecosystem so that France remains a leader in the field. It thus takes part in building a European sovereign infrastructure for computing and processing data at the highest level.

NumPEx est un programme prioritaire de recherche visant à inventer les outils et briques logicielles qui équiperont la prochaine génération de supercalculateurs : les machines Exascale, capables de réaliser un milliard de milliards d’opérations par seconde.
NumPEx prépare également les futurs secteurs utilisateurs à exploiter toutes les capacités de ces machines dans des domaines comme le climat, l’énergie, l’astrophysique, les sciences du vivant, l’industrie, ou la santé. Il comporte enfin un important volet formation pour contribuer à disséminer les dernières connaissances dans le calcul haute performance.
Financé par le gouvernement français à hauteur de 40,8 millions d'euros sur 6 ans dans le cadre de France 2030, NumPEx est piloté par le CEA, le CNRS, et l'INRIA.
Coordonné avec la stratégie européenne, NumPEx met en synergie l’ensemble de l’écosystème national de l’Exascale, pour que la France reste un leader en la matière. Il contribue ainsi à l’émergence d’une infrastructure européenne souveraine de calcul et traitement de la donnée au plus haut niveau mondial.
