I’m Shazia, a qualified nutritional therapist and pharmacist.
Fourteen years of work in conventional medicine provided much insight in to health issues affecting various population groups. I saw first-hand how, despite optimised medication regimes and support, my patients continued to struggle with their health issues.
I didn’t really question it at that point and it wasn't until I personally witnessed improvement to a sibling’s deteriorating health through complimentary medicine that I realised how essential this holistic approach was. I had never thought twice about going into a health focussed career but I found myself questioning how I would be part of the field I loved going forward.
My detour from pharmacy led me on a new journey in health. I returned to college to study naturopathic nutrition which opened up a whole new world of health and wellbeing.
Despite the difficult transition, I am truly grateful for the opportunity. It’s where I need to be and I love the holistic perspective nutrition brings.
I am passionate about sharing my learning and my desire is to educate groups of women who may not otherwise have the opportunity to learn about health through nutrition. I see myself as a bridge for these oftentimes vulnerable individuals, including those from ethnic and minority groups. I too am of a mixed ethnic background and I have experienced the challenges traditional food choices may bring, having grown up in a traditional Asian home. The food tastes amazing but is it on par when we talk nutritional content? Clarifying health misconceptions and addressing worrying health statistics often associated with minority groups in particular is also key.
My aim is to empower by education and influence positive change starting with food, revising the way we approach our health and wellbeing.
Health is a gift. We have one body. We are accountable for our health as per our circumstances.
