OASIS UNC - Organization for African Students' Interests and Solidarity

The footprints of O.A.S.I.S reflect a dedication to celebrating the beauty of African cultures, serving the needs of African people as we light the path to the Motherland on the campus of UNC-CH and in the surrounding communities. Africa, one of the most populous continents in the world, consists of 54 countries and is home to over 1.2 billion of the world’s population. Given the great diversity of our continent, there are thousands of identities and cultures encompassed under OASIS. Through performing arts, discussions, service and community events, OASIS seeks to share these different cultures and foster a diverse space of unity. We are family. As such, we stand with one another to celebrate, advocate and amplify our voices. By these goals, we light the path towards the African continent. We do this through our general body and our subgroups which were established to reflect the organization's overarching mission in culture, service, and leadership: Ujamaa, is a community service and advocacy group that strives to raise awareness of the issues Africa faces through community involvement, fundraising, and civic engagement. Zankiliwa, is a dance troupe that expresses African culture through various styles of dance from traditional to modern Afro Hip-Hop. For bookings please contact us at unc.zanki@gmail.com. EESA’s goal is to foster a welcoming community, one that supports all of its members and values the differences in ethnic groups, tribes, and experiences. We strive to be a space for continual knowledge and strength for the Eritrean and Ethiopian diaspora. Also, follow us on Instagram @unc.eesa. Kabari, is an acting troupe that utilizes storytelling, dramatic productions, poetry, and film screening as a means of depicting various African issues, society, and pop culture.
