ONA foundation

Our journey is defined by collaboration, dedication, and impactful social-economic transformation. Founded in 2014 as a social enterprise under the brand ONA in Morogoro, Tanzania. The organization evolved and rebranded itself as ONA Foundation in 2022, with intention to scale its operation support and base in the commercial city of Dar es Salaam. Inspired by a thought leader and first -time mother , MS Mboka Mwanitu, whose dedication of both material and financial support is to see ONA Foundation gears to offer economic empowerment through promoting, facilitating and providing to the needs of vulnerable communities through healthy, nutrition and food systems initiatives that build resilient and sustainable livelihoods. In 2018, we launched our first community-led approach, LISHEYANGU, a flagship initiative in partnership with Municipal councils' schools, graduates and volunteers from Sokoine University of Agriculture. Through this program, over 4,500 school-aged-children in Morogoro have benefited from knowledge and awareness sessions on accessing nutritious, locally-sourced meals provided at school in collaboration with six municipal schools. As of 2021, ONA scaled up the coverage to Tanga and Kagera regions and reached a total of 20,000 school children as one of the largest community-based, nutrition-focused solutions, extending its reach as an implementing partner with PANITA and GAIN-Tanzania. By 2024 UNICEF became our third and first UN agency partner to provide technical support and assistance through our 2nd initiative under Community- social behavior change content. These partnerships, combined with the commitment of our team, drive our mission to make a meaningful, lasting difference in Tanzania and beyond.
