The brand name ORATOR is closely linked to the Swiss watch manufacturer SCHILD & CO. SA. Located in the Swiss Jura, the heart of Swiss watchmaking, the roots of SCHILD & CO. SA date back to the year of 1888. It all began with their patent for a pocket watch with 8-day movement, later known as "Hebdomas". Up to the 1920s and 1930s, the company developed and specialized in mechanical watches for men and women with calendars and moon phases, as well as chronographs. From 1932 onwards, SCHILD & CO. SA came up with the first electric on-board watches for automobiles and airplanes. The discovery and revival of ORATOR, and subsequently the success story of ORATOR, began with Christian Schmitt and Hans Meeder in the year 2012. While visiting the famous Swiss watch exchange in La Chaux-de-Fonds, they discovered and purchased an ORATOR "Sportsman". They quickly developed a great fascination for this model: a diver‘s watch with great design and stylistic idiom, high quality, and finally, the perfect brand name "ORATOR". The watch experts were not able to lay this discovery aside. Result of these efforts is the rebirth of ORATOR, which had disappeared from the market, for a long time. Today's watch brand ORATOR is the continuation of this over 100-year old tradition of unique watchmaking. ORATOR represents "Swiss Made" watches of lasting value in the highest quality with Swiss movements and timeless classic design. Driven by their lifelong passion for watches and vintage cars, the two watch enthusiasts dived into intensive research and study of the design of classic watches. This leads to a deep understanding of the philosophy of watches of their time, the technology, the innovations and the design language of ingenious watchmaking. Only when these conditions are met, the watchmaking tradition of a great brand can be revived. The art to preserve the beauty and clarity of classic design and to carry it forward into the present, is what it is all about!
