Orion Elastomers Limited

Orion Elastomers (www.orionelastomers.com) has been established to develop, produce and commercialise filament for 3D printing made from combining recycled tyre rubber and recycled plastics. Founded by Ian Shepherd and Giles Catchpole, two veterans in this space, Orion is based at C4DI in Hull, UK Centre of renewables, and is working with the Interdisciplinary Research Centre (Polymer IRC - https://www.bradford.ac.uk/polymer-mnt/people/polymer_irc/) at the University of Bradford In part using technology substantially already developed by the Polymer Interdisciplinary Research Centre at the University of Bradford, In part using technology from Tyromer Inc. of Ontario, Canada, world leader in devulcanisation of rubber established by the University of Waterloo and in the forefront of the development of the circular economy for tyres. Note: only devulcanised rubber bonds chemically with plastic and Orion has agreed worldwide exclusivity with Tyromer for the use of their devulcanised rubber in the production of filament for 3D Printing. Good access to raw materials: Tyre Derived Polymer from Tyromer plant in Netherlands and processed plastic recyclate in plentiful supply locally. Production facilities available initially at Polymer IRC, subsequently at premises with wholesaler, N Fire Labs, Hull-based leader in 3D Printing. Gross Margin expected to be between 60 and 80%, Technology to be licensed globally by experienced team. To date Orion Elastomers has been funded by its shareholders. This has taken the company to TR Level 3 – Proof of Concept (refer to www.orionelstomers.com).
