Philanthropy Data Commons (PDC): A Mac Services Initiative The Philanthropy Data Commons (the “PDC”) is intended as a shared sector-wide technical and data governance infrastructure that enables new ways of managing data and information as a sector asset, creates more possibilities in collective work, fosters trust among grant seekers and funders and spurs more equitable access to resources in philanthropy. Launched in 2021 by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, along with other funders and changemakers, the PDC aims to ease the burden of grant applications and simplify the sharing of information across philanthropic organizations. Currently, PDC is temporarily housed within Mac Services, an affiliate of the MacArthur Foundation established in the early 1990s to oversee select charitable initiatives identified and approved by the Mac Services Board of Directors. Mac Services retains full legal, fiscal and fiduciary responsibility for the PDC.
