PLATFORM MPLS

Platform is a next generation alternative space set to open in Minneapolis in 2017. Platform will be a fully immersive contemporary art space that seeks to engage visitors from the front door throughout our entire space. Visitors entering Platform will be immediately immersed in our reading room, where they will encounter an exceptionally broad set of projects and selected publications, from which they can engage with forwarding thinking artists, architects, designers, writers and curators. This space will feature free access to the latest art, design and architecture periodicals; curated selections of books; Platform’s annual series of special edition prints; and an artist residency project that will provide insight into studio practice by presenting the most current art works produced by a selected leading artist – to be replaced by the next work she/he creates through a 12 month period. This space will be further activated by events including short-term artist-driven projects, lectures, performances and special events organized in collaboration with artists, non-profits, college and universities. Further this space will completely transform on occasion under the vision of a visiting artist or curator – keeping its focus firmly set on visitors engaging with the latest ideas of international leaders in contemporary art and practice and on social interaction. After encountering the reading room, visitors will enter Platform’s gallery which will feature four annual exhibitions premiering ambitious bodies of work by a diverse slate of artists from Minnesota and around in the world. Platform will seek out ambitious emerging and mid-career artists whose works aim to explore the vanguard of contemporary art and spark dialog with socially and culturally important subjects. Platform’s director, Tim Peterson, will curate and organize exhibitions and programming. Platform aims to respond to new bodies of work as soon as they completed along with selected guest curated and touring projects that dovetail with our goals, whenever possible.
