Our mission: People of Color in Independent Schools (POCIS) is a group of faculty and staff of independent schools in the New York City metro area that aims to provide support for the teachers and staff of color in these independent schools. This group is limited to people of color. We feel strongly that in order for us to do the work of supporting and affirming each other and our experiences as people of color in independent schools, we need a "safe space" in order to accomplish our mission. Most events are held in and around New York City.
