Roots

Roots is a program aiming to catalyze the growth and impact of a Global South climate justice movement made up of intersectional and youth-led grassroots initiatives. At our core, we are about sustained, strategic, and responsible relationship and movement building whilst investing in the long-term grassroots power and leadership critical to drive climate action. Our program aims to nurture a base, build capacity, foster community, and help people win campaigns. What does Roots do? Roots works with changemakers and communities to build power from the ground up. Capacity development and mentorship We partner with local, regional, and international networks and organizations to create capacity-building opportunities for groups and individuals in the Global South. We offer training and workshops including organizational building, well-being, and resilience, countering mis and disinformation, and grassroots and local organizing. Immersive storytelling experiences We run several creative and interactive sessions offering engaging and innovative opportunities for participants to develop new skills and perspectives, including Climate Simulation Games and Human LIVEraries. Community Building We create multiple opportunities throughout the year for organizers and activists to come together at regional and international Climate Justice Camps, which provide a platform for participants to build capacity, share best practices, talk about their experiences and stories, and co-create strategies and demands. Where do we work? Our work prioritizes work with activists and organizers in the Global South. This includes Latin America, the Caribbean, North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific. Roots is a diverse team with members based all over the world from Latin America, to Southeast Asia, the Pacific, the Middle East, and Europe.
