As a nation, we currently import a huge quantum of fossil fuels. This makes us vulnerable to global market shocks and supply disruptions and harms the environment in terms of emissions. On the other hand, the nation is burdened with disposal of agricultural waste that is burnt and causes pollution. Burning of agriculture residue is seen as a major hurdle in India’s quest for net zero carbon emissions by 2070.
With our indigenously developed and patented AgroGaz® technology, one solution can eliminate both problems; the agricultural residue can be converted to AgroGaz® (2G CBG), a product that is at par with CNG and can replace fossil fuels like Petrol, Diesel, and LPG. If all currently available agricultural residue is converted to AgroGaz®, it can potentially substitute about half the fossil fuels imported every year.
Our R&D team has developed a novel process to overcome the bottleneck in the bio-methanation process by increasing bacterial count and enhancing hydrolysis reaction kinetics while avoiding the use of polluting chemicals, expensive enzymes and reagents. This goes against conventional biogas production processes wherein lignocellulosic biomass is pretreated chemically or biologically which requires deployment of substantial resources and are economically inefficient.
The need for economically feasible biogas production from agricultural waste in India is critical. Converting agro waste into biogas can significantly reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Additionally, advancements in biogas technology can enhance efficiency and lower costs, making it a viable energy source while providing farmers with an added revenue stream. Thus, we can transform agricultural waste into a valuable energy resource, fostering a circular economy while addressing climate change challenges, guaranteeing energy security and ensuring employment generation in rural communities.
