ProCTMM Colombia

The Sea Turtles and Marine Mammals Conservation Program (ProCTMM by its spanish acronym) was founded in 1999 as a response to the need of linking the academy with public and private institutions, to face the existing problematic regarding the decline of turtles and marine mammals populations wich are in critical danger of extinction in the Colombian Caribbean region. The ProCTMM is formed by marine biologists and marine biology students interested in the conservation of these species, focusing their efforts on monitoring nesting beaches, raising sea turtle hatchlings in closed systems, satellite tracking, molecular biology, photo ID, veterinary nursing, and the development and implementation of environmental education processes with the local communities.
