Professional Negligence Bar Association (PNBA)

The Professional Negligence Bar Association was founded in September 1990 when a group of like-minded practitioners inaugurated an association to promote the idea of a specialist professional negligence Bar supported by continuing professional education. Since then its membership has grown to over 900 including over 80 silks. The work undertaken by its members includes generic professional indemnity issues and specialisation concerning legal, clinical, financial and construction professionals, and extends to matters of ethics, discipline, regulatory control and public law accountability. In addition to its continuing education activities, the PNBA is represented on the General Council of the Bar and is an active consultee in the process of law reform and procedural changes. It carries the view of its members to the Bar Council, Ministry of Justice, Law Commission, and a variety of governmental and non-governmental organisations. The PNBA is administered by an Executive Committee which holds elections for office annually. The officers of the Association comprise a Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary and Treasurer who are elected biennially.
