The Prohibition shaped America’s sport more than any era in US History. The Boston Red Sox won the World Series in 1916 & 1918, and dominated baseball for the better part of a decade before sales from their breweries in the final pre-Prohibition year enabled Huston & Ruppert to perform a masterstroke and purchase Babe Ruth for a small fortune. Over the next 13 dry years of baseball, Babe went on to lead Huston & Rupert’s New York Yankees to seven World Series, winning four. The Red Sox would not win another World Series Championship until 2004. “The House that Babe Built” would never have been, but for the Prohibition.
