About Project Artreach
Project Artreach is a day camp that spans over 3 days, aiming to reach out to children around the ages of 7-9 who are underprivileged due to financial or familial circumstances. Participants will undergo a series of art workshops that will expose them to an introduction to theatre, dance and visual arts. They will provide students with ample room for self-exploration to discover their potential and unlock the unique creative mind within them. Project Artreach was first conceptualised in 2016 with the aim of providing underprivileged youths with opportunities to develop their artistic potential. It sought to create an inclusive environment which demonstrates to youths that their capabilities are not limited by their circumstances. Under the guidance of our facilitators, students will gain a platform to exhibit their creativity and uncover their hidden artistic aptitudes. As the issue of income inequality is pushed to the forefront of conversation in Singapore, we observe a large disparity in arts exposure between the mid to upper income strata and those belonging to the lower income strata. With these problems, Team Artreach is set to increase accessibility to the arts by undoing such misconceptions and demonstrating that arts opportunities can be made available even to those of lower income strata. We believe that undoing this misconception is not only crucial to equalising arts accessibility within society, but also to provide children with important building blocks of holistic development. Such artistic processes will encourage children to actively engage with their imaginations, honing essential skills of conceptualisation and execution that are best learnt through the arts.
