About Newfor Project

Founded in 2019, the NewFor Project is a thematic research initiative under FAPESP (the São Paulo Research Foundation) in partnership with the Dutch Research Council (NWO). NewFor’s mission is to better understand forest restoration for the benefit of both people and nature. The project's objective is to evaluate the multifunctionality of different forest types present within Brazil’s Atlantic Forest Biome, lending support to large-scale forest restoration projects. The NewFor Project is coordinated by Dr. Pedro Brancalion (ESALQ/USP) and by Dr Frans Bongers (Wageningen University). The team is made up of professionals, researchers, field technicians and students from transdisciplinary and diverse backgrounds including the public and private sectors.
