Prostoot (Prostoot, is the Bangla word for readiness) is a long-term programme teaching young school children disaster preparedness through traditional Bangladeshi outdoor games some of which are considered as part of our ‘intangible heritage’ and digital interactive live dramas including simulations. The theory of change behind Prostoot is to use extra-curricular activities to achieve the same level of learnings attained through mainstream traditional classroom learnings. Prostoot is to create a disaster prepared generation in Bangladesh to face the current and future disaster challenges while satisfying the SDGs. The programme will also establish a ‘Prostoot Club’ in each of these 42 schools to ensure continuity and sustainability by involving the inspired disaster prepared young champions. Prostoot has been inaugurated by the Honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on October 13, 2021 after running the successful pilot project on September 18, 2021 in Cox’s Bazar Poura Preparatory High School. At her opening address, the Hon Prime Minister highlighted the need for such programme and advised to extend Prostoot for college students as well.
