Rahanna House was built in 1823 which is when the initial Victorian-age trees were planted. Taking inspiration from the original plantings we have now completely refurbished the Walled Garden and have been planting what we hope will soon be Ireland's largest arboretum, if also it's youngest.
The mix and scale of planting is probably unique in the country with collections of Acers, Limes, Holly supplemented with native trees and those from all temperate areas on the world including the Americas, Europe and Asia.
We hope to be able to be open to the public in five years time (so around 2029) when the arboretum is fully established.
