Dr. Roseanne Chambers, Geologist

Dr. Roseanne Chambers is a geologist, geographer and writer. She has 35 years of experience as a consulting geologist evaluating potential earthquake, volcanic and other geologic hazards to critical facilities such as dams and power plants. The years she spent looking for active faults while hiking through rugged landscapes throughout the Western US and in the Sahara Desert in Egypt were a highpoint in her career. She also participated in developing hazard methodology and policy recommendations for state, federal, and professional organizations. In 2005 and again in 2006, Dr. Chambers traveled in Peru as a tourist. She was captivated by the majestic Andes Mountains and by the exceptional stone block architecture and art left behind by the ancient indigenous cultures. She searched for a book to provide a broad overview of the geology of Peru, but when this effort was unsuccessful, she decided to write such a book. Dr. Chambers visited Peru again in 2009, this time with a biologist friend and two geologist friends, to collect information for the book she is writing about the Andes Mountains. Dr. Chambers (a.k.a. R.C. Perman) is the author or co-author of many technical papers. She earned Bachelor degrees in Geography and Geology, and her PhD in Paleontology, from the University of California at Berkeley. She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she frequently hikes along the hills and beaches of the numerous regional parks.
