New REMIT II regulations require energy traders to have representation in the main EU country of activity. That is our main focus. The Regulation on Wholesale Energy Market Integrity and Transparency (REMIT) came into force in 2011 to support open and fair competition in the European wholesale energy markets. Its successor, the revised REMIT II took effect on 7 May 2024 and introduces new measures to better protect the EU citizens and businesses from energy market abuse. The revised REMIT brings a closer alignment of the EU rules on transparency and integrity of energy markets with those in the financial markets. The scope of REMIT is expanded. ACER’s regular surveillance scope has been expanded to EU platforms covering electricity balancing markets and more there is more oversight of algorithmic trading. The new regulation also brings about a new obligation for non-EU energy market participants to appoint a legal representative in the EU27. In order to offer a simple and cost-efficient solution to the market, ETR Advisory and CorreggioNET have joined forces to set up a bespoke solution to offer representative services in various EU markets to companies that need to appoint an EU legal representative.
