Research Institute "Promitheas"

The Research Institute Promitheas is a non-profit research Centre founded in 2012 in Nicosia Cyprus, with the aim to promote interdisciplinary research. The fundamental goals of the Institute include the promotion, conduct and use of systematic scientific research as a tool of critical analysis, dialogue and understanding of the political, social, economic and cultural environment. Its research interests include – but are not exhausted to – issues of society, culture, history, youth, human rights, gender studies, media, and European issues. The materialization of the research goals, as well as the creative and critical intervention of the Institute in the Cypriot society, is achieved through a combination of tools and methods: carrying out studies, analyses, events, seminars, lectures, workshops, public debates, publications, cultural events, book festivals. Promitheas has extensive experience on issues and actions relating to the participation of young people in democratic life and processes, gender issues, as well as phenomena such as hate speech and crimes, anti-discrimination awareness-raising campaigns promoting the right of all people to participation and inclusion in the social sphere. One of the central fields of action of the Institute aspires to be the organization, undertaking and participation in bi-community actions, research, and studies, with the aim of the peaceful reunification of our homeland. At the same time, we consider the development of critical thinking in Cyprus to be an important prerequisite both for achieving the goal of reunification and for the democratic and peaceful education of Cypriots. Through the systematic and methodical development of progressive thinking and social consciousness for civil, political, cultural, economic, and social rights, the Institute contributes, among other things, to the removal of any discrimination due to gender, origin, beliefs, or other individual choices.
