RESQSHIP e. V. was founded in June 2017. The European states are no longer fulfilling their duty to rescue people at sea, or are doing so inadequately, and non-governmental aid organisations are being massively obstructed. We do not want to stand idly by and watch the mass deaths in the Mediterranean. After carrying out monitoring operations in the central Mediterranean on the sailing ship Josefa in 2019, we have been on the water with the motor sailer Nadir since 2021. Our VISION: No human being has to die while fleeing across the Mediterranean. We want the dignity and lives of all people to be equally respected. Our MISSION: 1. Support rescue operations in the Mediterranean: RESQSHIP provides active emergency aid at sea to save people in distress from death by drowning. With our sailing ship, we carry out humanitarian monitoring operations in the central Mediterranean, record distress cases and transmit them to the responsible search and rescue coordination centres in order to call for qualified help. In this way, we want to ensure that people reach a safe place. We observe and document human rights violations and above all call on the EU state institutions to act lawfully. 2. Targeted public relations work: Civil sea rescue for people on the move must not be a permanent condition. Through awareness-raising work, we denounce the existing abuses as well as the structures on which they are based and clearly position ourselves for the observance of human rights at sea. European society should stand by its values and take responsibility for all refugees at the EU's external borders. We therefore demand sustainable solutions at the political level, in particular the fight against the causes of fleeing as well as safe and legal escape routes for people in need, so that no one has to drown on the dangerous migration route across the Mediterranean Sea.
