Richard Pierce - Therapy

My name is Richard and I am an integrative, relational therapist which essentially means that I personalise therapy to meet your unique needs using a blend of approaches from Humanistic Therapies to Psychodynamic and Behavioural Therapies. In my journey towards becoming a therapist, I have encountered significant personal and professional challenges that have shaped and reinforced my understanding of the importance of self-care. A number of years ago I became the main carer for my father who has a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s and Vascular Dementia, as a result of pressures from full-time Human Resources work, burnout and depression, I moved into self-employment to allow a re-evaluation of priorities and the essential flexibility to care for my father. Part of this journey involved trials with medication but what really helped was therapy. Subsequently I have completed a Level 3 qualification n Person Centred counselling and I am currently in the process of completing a post-graduate diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy which will lead to full registration of the BACP in the first half of 2024. My personal experience has emphasised the value of self-awareness, self-compassion and the ability to adapt to evolving circumstances. It has reinforced in the transformative power of therapy in helping individuals confront and overcome life’s adversities. I have also learnt to appreciate the importance of the therapeutic relationship between client and therapist. This is why I offer a free 30-minute session to all prospective clients to see how we may work together.
