Our vision is to establish a real-time and holistic exchange of Health and Safety information between enterprises and the authorities on leading indicators: before accidents occur. An exchange that will link compliance and safety and set common standards for all enterprises of all sectors and sizes and will provide global real-time statistics and benchmarking, minimizing the requirements for on-site inspections. A sophisticated interface is required for such an exchange: this is what RIscout is.
Our approach was based on a simple assumption: regardless of attribution, all incidents of injury or health impairment locally occur in a material agent: a part of a building/area, an infrastructure or a material/substance. By identifying risks and protective measures for each agent and linking them through a respective check-list, a common picture for Health and Safety in each workplace can be built. Each enterprise has to choose the material agents present in its workplaces and fill the relevant check-lists. In this way, a detailed picture of compliance for each enterprise occurs in a standardized form, along with the risks and prioritization of measures to be taken.
This simple approach provides huge benefits. First of all, compliance is linked to safety and evaluation can take place based on safety performance, rather than incident records. A common language between authorities and enterprises is built, so that measures are known in advance and communicated in real-time. A holistic picture of hazardous sources, risks and their assessment is built, saving human resources for on-site inspections. A holistic and standardized evaluation of enterprises is created, allowing prioritization of inspections or insurance premium differentiation. Subjectivity, reliance on inspector’s discretion and inequalities in inspections are eliminated.
