Everyone’s a photographer these days.
I do it because I can’t really help it.
I see things. Little juxtapositions and oddservations that everyone else surely notices, but I just can’t leave them be.
I see things that aren’t even there too. Like a narrative playing out in a scene. Or, a surrealist take on the inanimate or ordinary. Well, it’s faster than painting it.
It seems my brain is hardwired for recurrent themes. There’s a bit of an obsession with details. Chiaroscuro. Cloudscapes. And cards.
A lot of this undoubtedly stems from the inspiration I’ve stolen over the years from the likes of Henri Cartier-Bresson, Bill Brandt, Alfred Stieglitz (for the clouds), Elliot Erwitt, Martin Parr, Gregory Crewdson and most recently Trent Parke.
And, like most of them, I strive for purity. I prefer natural light, and working in-camera. Alright then, maybe a little Photoshop from time to time.
