ROPES Literary Journal is published annually by students of the MA in Literature and Publishing at the University of Galway. When ROPES started out in 1992, initial editions focused on Irish politics, history, and literature. Over the years, the journal began to include works of fiction, the first being featured in 1998. More recently, the journal has endeavoured to include a wider array of material, ranging from poetry and non-fiction to visual art.
This year is no different; the ROPES Team remains dedicated to showcasing a broad and inclusive range of work. Our main goal is to offer a platform from which established and emerging writers and artists, especially underrepresented voices, can exhibit their work for a literary audience. The theme for our 33rd issue will be "roots," which for us carries connotations of place, origins, family, nature, classical myths and tales, and core values and meanings.
All proceeds from ROPES 2025 will go to Galway Rape Crisis Centre.
