About SAGE (Support for Afghan Girls' Education)
Support for Afghan Girls' Education (SAGE) is a Rhode Island 501(C)3 nonprofit that provides financial and program support to girls and young women in Afghanistan. Since the Taliban takeover in August, 2021, girls over the age of 12 have been forbidden to attend school. We are currently supporting more than 100 female students through tutoring in academic subjects, English language instruction, enabling access to Duolingo coaching and test-taking, assistance in obtaining high school equivalency certificates, and linkages to online enrollment in US community college online degree courses. We have been able to provide desks, chairs, computers and internet access, along with academic support. SAGE also advocates for Afghan women and girls by calling attention to and documenting Taliban abuses, particularly of the Hazara, some 8 million Shi'a Dari speaking people inside Afghanistan.
