SAMPE Switzerland

The Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering (SAMPE) is an international organization devoted to the promotion of technical excellence in material and process engineering, totalling around 15'000 engineers, technologists and materials scientists. It was founded in 1944 by Californian aerospace engineers with the goal to build a professional network and improve the exchange of technical information. Since those times, SAMPE has spread all over the world and is divided in about 40 chapters. SAMPE Switzerland (or the Swiss SAMPE Chapter, SSC) was founded in 1985 by the initiative of Swiss people that were former members of SAMPE in USA. Today, SSC gathers Swiss professionals from all the linguistic regions of Switzerland, as well as students and foreigners living, studying, and working in the country. Our official language within SSC is English. The main interest of our members concentrates on fiber-reinforced plastics. Nevertheless, we are open to any kind of advanced material, technology, and process, related to, e.g., ceramics, metallic composites, surface engineering, additive manufacturing, computer modeling and simulation, etc. Application areas include: - Aerospace and defense - Transportation (automotive, railway, etc.) - Marine - Civil engineering (buildings and infrastructures) - Electrical/Electronics - Energy generation - Equipment and machinery - Sports and leisure The Swiss SAMPE Chapter is run by a managing board elected by the members of the Chapter at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). Networking on a technical as well as a social level is one of our most important goals. Besides the AGM, the Chapter organizes a varied program of events, including: - Conferences and seminars - Industry visits - Student events like bridge-building contest - Member informal meetings and activities We provide travel grants for students for international SAMPE events. Our aim is to support career and technology developments in Switzerland.
