About Schumacher Global Network
The purpose of this Network, which is really more of a meshwork, is to weave together threads of connection between folks who have connected some of their roots to Schumacher College. This includes individuals, as well as legacy projects, groups, and organizations who share the head, hands, heart, and holistic transformative learning ethos that the college embodies. Many purposes and manifestations will emerge here in the meshwork. So, please come with an open sense of curiosity & care. Over the years, Schumacher College alumni networks have come and gone, but the desire remains to see the network and connect to others who have been to the college. The Schumacher Global Network was formed from this desire. The project began four years ago by alumni and students who wished to join a global community of practice that existed in theory but appeared to be disconnected. Much dreaming and research ensued. For several years, module placements with Ecological Design Thinking students infused this project with the perspectives of those still attending the college, who were looking for a network beyond the college itself and often struggling to make sense of the deteriorating relationships with the Estate. Recent graduates (and we imagine alumni of yore) have dreamed of working together in the world, bound by shared values of those drawn to Schumacher College. The Network's name, stewards, and online platform have changed over time, but the central purpose holds strong: to make the network visible and to cultivate an environment of relationality, care, and belonging, where connection and self-organizing may flourish. We currently use Hylo as our online meeting space. We chose Hylo as it is a tool for collaboration for purpose-driven groups. Its design is open-source, non-profit, participatory, and prosocial. Through member profiles, the Network also holds a database of skills and interests that are searchable tags in the map and member directory.
