About SEAMAC - Strengthening the Excellence of Additive Manufacturing Capabilities

Researchers from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering UL, have been awarded a contract to coordinate a three-year European Twinning project in Strengthening the Excellence of Additive Manufacturing Capabilities (SEAMAC), popularly known as 3D printing. This will allow the FME to strengthen its excellence in the field of additive technologies. Two laboratories at FMe are involved in the project, namely the Laboratory for Alternative Technologies, led by Associate Prof. dr. Joško Valentinčič, and the Laboratory of Synergetics, led by Prof. dr. Edvard Govekar. Additive technologies drive industrial development and enable new industrial solutions. Human resources are key to realising the full potential of these technologies and the SEAMAC project addresses them. In collaboration with the Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg and the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, our researchers will develop their knowledge and skills in the fields of functionally graded materials (FGMs), direct laser deposition (DLD) and post-processing to improve the surface roughness of products through plasma electrolytic polishing (PEP). The Project will offer training in the form of workshops with the project partners and jointly organise three summer schools, each year at one partner. The last one will take place at FME, with the aim of continuing the summer schools after the end of the Project. Project activities also include cooperation in the field of project acquisition and management, as the Department for International Cooperation, Scientific and Research Work at the FME will work closely with the respective offices of the project partners. SEAMAC aims to support and upgrade the administrative units of this faculty (department), especially the department listed above and the unit for corporate marketing and communications.
