Student Education for Environmental Development, or SEED, brings free and interactive environmental education to local schools with a focus on underprivileged students.
As four university students, we came together to form SEED because we believe that students should have the tools to change the future they will inhabit. Our forty-minute lessons, which we call Branches, teach students about a specific environmental issue through action-oriented, hands-on activities. In our first Branch, Composting & Food Waste, students have the chance to build their own mini compost jars to take home!
So far, SEED has reached over 350 students across four cities and interacted with dozens of environmental organizations and non-profits. We were accepted into the World Federation of United Nations Associations' (WFUNA) Youth Action for SDGs program as one of 15 out of 3,000 international teams and were invited to a UN summit in Norway in September 2023. SEED was a finalist in the Environment category for the prestigious Quebec-based awards program Forces AVENIR and also serves as a part of the UN's Sustainable Development Solutions Network.
