Our Shamba, or farm, is located in the Kilimanjaro region in Tanzania. We started developing the farm in 2012 by planting trees along the perimeter.
In 2016 we introduced organic farming as the first farm in the whole region. We learned a lot by doing, studying practices from abroad and applying them in our context.
Green Communities
Working with schools and village communities, we focus on improving the environment in the community through tree planting. The Kilimanjaro region used to be very green. The felling of trees for domestic use and agriculture completely changed the landscape. In 2019, the Tanzanian government banned further tree cutting and introduced a requirement for all citizens to contribute to community activities.
Building on our experience with a major tree-planting campaign in 2018, we are on a mission to bring back tens of thousands of trees along roads, riverbanks and on community lands.
