At Sharedish, we’re on a mission to eliminate stigma around hunger and food insecurity. In 2022/23, 7.2 million people—that’s 11% of the UK population—found themselves in food insecure households, facing both low and very low food security. The numbers are staggering, and the need is urgent. 🥦 The Problem: Rising Food Insecurity: A YouGov survey by the Food Foundation revealed that 17.0% of UK households were food insecure in June 2023, a significant increase from 8.8% in January 2022 and 7.4% in January 2021. Families are struggling to put meals on the table, and the impact is far-reaching. Pressure on Food Banks: Food banks are under immense pressure to meet the growing need. In 2022/23, the Trussell Trust—a charity and network of food banks—supplied the highest recorded number of three-day emergency food parcels. But it’s not enough. Stigma and Shame: Individuals facing food insecurity often grapple with stigma and shame associated with using food banks. This emotional burden can deter them from seeking the help they desperately need. 🌎 Our Solution: Anonymous Meal Sharing: Sharedish encourages everyone to participate.
