Sideshow Alley is a modern, independent, music focused filmmaking collective. We’re a creative community of filmmakers, photographers, designers & sound engineers collaborating with artists and musicians. We’re makers and doers showcasing talent on both sides of the camera. Founded in 2010 by Ty Johnson, Dave Budge, Selwyn Cozens, we’re driven by a passion for honest and direct storytelling, embracing genuine intimacy through documentary film and our improvised outdoor music video series. Our online live music video series brings together the finest new and established artists and filmmakers at unexpected locations in New York City and Melbourne. We make new friends in alleyways and on rooftops, recording each artist performing one song, one take, with no fixed agenda and no rehearsal. By imposing location, time and technological restrictions this informal approach brings out a unique and honest take on each artists’ music. Since it’s inception in 2010 we’ve produced five seasons, garnering a worldwide audience with over 6 million views across featured artists; Mumford & Sons, Nathaniel Rateliff, Midlake, Laura Marling, Gomez, Kimbra, First Aid Kit and many more. In 2015 we released our first feature length music documentary ‘Austin to Boston’. The film celebrated successful screenings at film festivals across the world including BFI London Film Festival, IDFA, Sheffield Doc/Fest, Nashville Film Festival and Visions du Reel. The film is now available to buy and rent through all popular digital services.
