Solutions at work is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 1989 by a group of homeless individuals whose needs exceed the resources offered by local social services. Solutions at work began as a self-help initiative to help people living in poverty or homelessness become more self-sufficient, take control of their own lives, and assist others by sharing their lessons learned from facing similar challenges. Throughout the years we identified and have contributed to creating programs to fill gaps in the services available to our target population in the city of Cambridge. Our city has always had a difficult time adequately addressing the needs for those who find themselves living in poverty or homelessness. In the 1980’s there was no source of furniture for those who found housing so a furniture bank was organized, a role since filled by other agencies. Since then, Solutions at Work has grown into a well-respected nonprofit organization, helping over 400,000 families & individuals find hope, get back on their feet and transition from poverty or homelessness into independent living. SAW offers a variety of programs and services that cater to each individual's unique needs, including shelter, meals, clothing, childcare supplies, professional attire, job training and placement, housing assistance, mental health counseling, and more. Solutions at Work focuses on breaking the economic chains that bind people in homelessness and poverty. We provide the paid employment, skills training and tangible resources that help people make the transition to independence. We want to end homelessness. At Solutions at Work we solve problems with real, tangible solutions. We offer the means to help families and individuals make a successful transition out of homelessness and provide homeless persons with the tools, information, and places to make their voices heard effectively as self-advocates.
