SOTERIA EU Project

Urban mobility environments are becoming more and more complex, posing Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs) at increased risk, while interacting with each other, as well as motorized vehicles. In this context, there is an urgent need for a clear understanding of road users’ behaviors, leading to a fair and optimal use of urban infrastructures. SOTERIA aims to provide a holistic framework of innovative models, tools and services that enable data-driven urban safety intelligence, facilitate safe travelling of VRUs and foster the safe integration of micro-mobility services in complex environments. Our expected project results aim to accelerate achieving EU’s ‘Vision Zero’ for zero fatalities in road transport by 2050. At the operational level SOTERIA uncovers unexplored behavioral characteristics of VRUs and engages Living Lab communities in social innovation activities for the co-creation of urban safety solutions and infrastructure designs.
