About Southern Climate Impacts Planning Program

Focusing on the four-state study region of Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas, SCIPP assists stakeholders in identifying areas in which their plans and operations are impacted by extreme events such as droughts, floods, severe storms, and hurricanes. Then, SCIPP connects them to relevant and actionable climate information that can improve their planning and decision-making processes. As a 13-year member of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Regional Integrated Sciences and Assessments (RISA) program, SCIPP strives to continue the success of the RISA program by working closely with stakeholders and using an interdisciplinary research approach. SCIPP is a collaborative research program of the University of Oklahoma and Louisiana State University, and includes a variety of partners both within the region and beyond, such as Texas Sea Grant at Texas A&M University and Adaptation International.
