For survivors of exploitation, the path to life goals is rarely linear. What can often be seen as a “choice” is more often a decision based on survival. The nearly impossible path becomes even more complex. Trafficking survivors struggle to stabilize their lives, made unjustly more difficult by the burden of court fees they are often unable to pay. We’ve seen first-hand that lifting the financial burden of court costs can dramatically change the outcomes for survivors of exploitation. It is an incredible gap in our system that we can commoditize children and then make them pay to try to get the help they need to start their lives back over.
