The Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment ("E") leads the U.S. Department of State's efforts to advocate for U.S. foreign policy priorities and develop and implement international policies related to economic growth, energy, agriculture, maritime affairs, the environment, and science and technology. The Assistant Secretaries of the bureaus and offices in the E Family advise the Under Secretary, work closely under his leadership with the Department’s regional bureaus and U.S. embassies and Consulates overseas, and guide the policy direction within their jurisdiction to: advance the Department’s economic agenda; elevate and intensify our efforts related to economic, energy, and food security, and strengthening supply chains; and foster innovation through robust science, entrepreneurship, and technology policies.
