The Division of Immunology is located in the Biomedical Research Institute (BMRI) at Stellenbosch University's Tygerberg Campus. Our research comprises several focus areas, each investigating a different immunological aspect of tuberculosis (TB) disease.
The research aims to identify immune biomarkers that can be taken forward into future trials for novel diagnostics, new treatment regimens and vaccines. We work with several international consortia and US, European and African partners on large cohorts of participants with well-characterized TB infection and disease phenotypes to search for biomarkers of TB infection and disease.
In addition to research, excellence, our division is passionate about education in Immunology and produce several doctoral, masters and honours graduates annually.
