SUN-to-LIQUID II is a European Project funded under Horizon Europe, aiming at developping a robust and sustainable conversion pathway to produce high-quality renewable liquid fuel from the untapped inexhaustible potential of solar energy. It demonstrates a record-high efficiency in the production of solar hydrocarbon fuel from water and CO2 via solar-thermochemical conversion, bringing novel structured redox materials and heat recovery from TRL 2-3 to TRL 4-5. It provides evidence for cost-effective >80% GHG emission reduction especially for aviation, with technical scalability to production potentials beyond projected future demand.
Led by Bauhaus Luftfahrt e.V., SUN-to-LIQUID II brings together a highly complementary consortium (formed of 6 partners from 5 countries), unique expertise and state-of-the-art facilities bridging the gap between research and application and constitutes a unique constellation of research institutes and industry for the advancement of solar thermochemistry.
