The Horizon Europe project CIRCULAIR investigates and develops an innovative process for the resource-efficient production of sustainable aviation biofuels and other marketable renewable chemicals and fuel products. The utilisation of biomass feedstock, which is abundant in agricultural environments, ensures cost-efficiency, relevant scale and the potential to create net-negative carbon emissions.
CIRCULAIR will advance the technical maturity of core conversion steps along the HTL fuel production chain to a technological readiness level of TRL 4-5 at a scale from TRL 1 to TRL 9 (TRL 4: Technology validated in a lab, TRL5: Technology validated in an industrially relevant environment).
The four-year research project is funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe Programme (GA No. 101083944) and conducted by a consortium of 10 partners with a total budget of 5 million Euros. Official start date: 1 January 2023.
