Molecular diagnostics and infectious disease medicine are today relying on antibody-based methods. These are far from perfect. Producing high quality antibodies take time, they are expensive and not very stable. This is especially critical in a worldwide epidemic where rapid field testing is critical for limiting spreading of the disease. Moreover, methods are lacking for a number of interesting molecules that indicate specific diseases. Robust synthetic receptors that can be mass produced at low cost offers a solution to this problem. Our inventions rSAM and MIP offers an entirely new way of molecular and pathogen detection leading to assays and tests that are cheaper, more stable and faster to develop, all being critical issues in disease diagnostics.
