About Surface and Interface acoustic wave-driven Microfluidic devices BAsed on fs-laser technology
The SIMBA project is an initiative funded by the European Union under the Next Generation EU program, within the framework of PRIN PNRR2022. The project operates in the field of microfluidics, a technology designed for controlling microliters of fluids, which plays a pivotal role in separating micro-particles. Acoustophoresis, a widely employed microfluidic system for cell separation, is central to this endeavor. The initiative tackles challenges related to enhancing device separation performance and sample purity by employing a femtosecond laser-based fabrication platform to optimize an acoustophoresis-based Lab On Chip (LOC) system. This collaborative project, involving the expertise of Politecnico di Bari, Università degli Studi di Bari, and CNR, takes a multidisciplinary approach. It contributes significantly to basic research by advancing studies on acoustic wave devices, proposes a sustainable alternative for microfluidic device fabrication, and holds promising biomedical applications, particularly in the diagnosis of tumor metastasis and the evaluation of therapeutic effects on prognosis.
