The Ambassador of Sweden in Addis Ababa is Ambassador to ๐๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐จ๐ฉ๐ข๐ as well as Swedenโs Special Representative to the ๐๐๐ซ๐ข๐๐๐ง ๐๐ง๐ข๐จ๐ง, ๐๐๐๐๐, and the regional organisation ๐๐๐๐. The Ambassador is also accredited to ๐๐ฃ๐ข๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ข where there is a Swedish Consulate. The Embassy, which has approximatley 60 staff members, consists of five sections: the section for Political and multilateral affairs, promotion, and public diplomacy; section for Bilateral Development Cooperation; section for Regional Development Cooperation; section for Administration and Consular Affairs; section for Migration.
Sweden has had relations with Ethiopia since 1866 when the first Swedish missionaries arrived. Ethiopia was also the first country that received development aid from Sweden, starting as early as 1954.
