Taimahi Trust

Taimahi Trust is changing lives by walking alongside people with learning and intellectual disabilities, growing their self-determination, teaching them how to work and changing mindsets about disability. Based in Whangārei, we provide free on the job training for young adults with learning and intellectual disabilities. We operate multiple interconnected businesses on one site, which offer immersive learning experiences: a fresh produce shop, a commercial kitchen with the baked goods sold in the shop, a hothouse with herbs sold in store, barista and own brand coffee via a coffee cart, and our operations administration. The businesses provide the classroom and training ground, while the shop serves the wider community, normalising intellectual disability and exposing the community to the work of Taimahi Trust. We envision a future where there are meaningful, diverse and genuine opportunities for young adults with learning and intellectual disabilities to thrive within the community.
