About BUILD at Texas A&M University
BUILD is a 501c(3) non-profit student run organization at Texas A&M University that strives to unite the student body through building Texas Aggie Medical Clinics (TAMCs), that are sent to countries in need around the world. We partner with Medical Bridges, a non-profit that stocks our TAMCs with surplus medical supplies and used equipment. Since its founding in 2012, BUILD has served local, national, and global communities through four different projects and has transformed a total of 47 containers. In 2013, BUILD's first project served the local community through a partnership with Habitat for Humanity. Over the course of August to December, BUILD members and volunteers constructed a house for the Vasquez family. In 2014, BUILD launched a three year project, otherwise known as the 12-for-12 Campaign. This was the first time BUILD embarked on constructing medical clinics out of 40' shipping containers. Each TAMC was dedicated in honor of the 12 fallen Aggie Bonfire victims. In addition, BUILD constructed its first ever prototype TAMC to keep on site in remembrance of the 27 Aggies injured in the Bonfire collapse. This prototype went on to serve the Rockport community after the destruction of Hurricane Harvey in 2017. In 2017, BUILD launched its third project, the 5-for-5 Campaign. This campaign continued the vision of constructing TAMCs, but honored five notable Aggies who played a pivotal role in the Battle of the Bulge. One of these Aggies include Lt. Col. James Earl Rudder who served as the president of Texas A&M University in the 1960s. In 2017, BUILD was also honored by the Texas House of Representatives through a State Resolution. BUILD's most current and ongoing project, which started in 2018, is the Fallen Aggie Hero Project. This project dedicates each TAMC after an Aggie who gave the ultimate sacrifice either on or after September 11, 2001. This project introduced our first ever education unit which will serve alongside one of our TAMCs in Jordan.
