About Texas A&M Physics & Astronomy

We share a common passion, physics and astronomy, and are committed to transferring our knowledge and skills to young scholars. We perform research at the frontiers of science, uncovering Nature’s secrets, discovering new constituents of matter, elucidating the structure and origin of the Universe, and developing new materials and quantum sensors. As a department, we conduct research in astronomy and astrophysics, atomic and molecular physics, quantum optics, condensed matter physics, high energy physics, nuclear physics, and many other fields that are central to the mission of our department, the College of Arts & Sciences, and Texas A&M University. Through our classroom instruction, laboratories, and advising by world-class scientists, we provide outstanding opportunities to our ~200 undergraduate majors for exceptional education, research, science outreach, and community service. Our faculty includes two Nobel Prize winners, four members of the National Academy of Sciences, 10 Distinguished Professors, and one University Professor. Approximately 150 graduate students master their research and teaching skills under the supervision of our faculty and researchers using state-of-the-art equipment. We also host ~50 postdoctoral research fellows and visiting scholars. Our department underscores Texas A&M’s commitment to being a welcoming university that supports academic freedom. We will continually strive to do our part to improve this institution of learning to ensure that everyone across our campus can pursue their science feeling safe, respected and valued.
